Virutal Sketch Date: August Submission

Ornamental Cabbage 5 in x 7 in, graphite on Stonehenge paper

Here is my entry for the August sketch date.

It's been a busy week, so I didn't have much time for this, but I did enjoy the couple of hours I had for it.

Thanks to Sherrie for the reference! And thanks to everyone for participating, I just love these!

Hi Rose,
First, thanks for being admin for this Virtual Sketch Date!

There is an angular approach to this that speaks specifically to your style. I would recognize it as yours in a minute!
I haven't used 'just graphite' in a long time, and your drawing makes me want to give it a go again.
Thanks again, Rose.

Rose, you did a great job pushing the values in this drawing. And I agree with Leslie that I'd recognize it as yours from the style of your marks. One small thing, I find myself looking for a suggestion of a leaf in the bottom right. I don't know if that's because it is needed or because I am familiar with the reference, but thought I'd mention it so you could decide for yourself. :)

Thank you Leslie and Stacy! You have made my day, I have been working on style lately - and yes Stacy, you are right, I left off a leaf because I just ran out of time, but I totally agree with you!

Rose, I picked up on your 'style' too. I like the way you took the reference image and made it yours, while still staying close to the original.

Very good. I thought about graphite too but just couldn't stop trying those luscious colors.

I love your pencil drawing. Cabbage becomes quite monumental in this medium.

A cabbage with personality! Beautifully drawn even with limited time.

Rose, Thank you very much for your work on organizing the virtual sketch date. I can't say enough good things about this experience, so often we isolate ourselves as artists, its great to come together and share our efforts.
That said, I love your graphite drawing. To me your angular shapes and the softness in the leaf detail are a great contrast.
Thanks again.

Hi Rose, you've achieved such a lot of depth and contrast in your drawing, the dark areas are so deep - something I'm aiming for but not reached yet. Great style.

Hi! Rose: I guess you feel like I ran off. Not so, I have been trying to get a gift up for all of you.
Your Graphite is wonderful, and so very You! That is so very important in drawing. I love graphite drawings, I have been fortunate enough to be to collect many ACEOs of one artist on ebay. Please do not give up your Graphite drawing.

Please check your email.
