Waterhouse and Boreas Study
This is a copy I made this weekend of a study Waterhouse did for his painting Boreas. I love this painting of his. According to wikipedia, Boreas was the Greek god of the north wind, bringer of cold weather. I love the elegance of the shawl wrapped around her and it billowing out. I find the poignancy of her standing gently, quietly, and yet resolutely against the wind quite moving. You now know the reason I wanted to undertake so many sketches of cloth!
I'm playing around with ideas for a more ambitious Waterhouse project, i.e. attempt something more in his style, rather than just a copy. We'll see.
