I've been working on a new large piece, you can see a small crop above. I'm hoping to get this finished soon - I'm itching to get on to something else.

I'm trying out a new configuration for drawing - more about that next time.

Another Sneak Peek

A second sneak peek, this time with the flowers a little more developed.

Above, a few recent journal pages. I'm looking for a new pen. I spent my lunch break looking on the web, but it was fairly overwhelming - so I'm going to ask if any of my readers have a suggestion. I'd like one that can give me variation in line width (responds to pressure). I'd really like a brown or sepia ink. Waterproofing is not that important to me. Any ideas?

Portrait Work in Progress

I decided to play around with some different colored paper - not a neutral, but something bold and brassy. This is on Red Earth Mi-Teintes paper. There is some more work to do on this, but I thought I'd show you what I've been doing the last few days.

Work on such a "warm" support is a challenge, but also quite a bit of fun. My usual flesh tones came out very chalky. However, the eraser is a great tool on a support like this - I was smudging the eraser around with abandon for a while and it had a lovely softening, blending effect. I definitely like that - it felt a bit like painting, pushing and pulling wet paint around.

Work in Progress - Every Day Beauties

Do you feel like you have to check email every time you sit down in front of the computer? Maybe it's more like "I'll just check email and Facebook then ease into it." Not so much a "I have to check", more of just an unwise habit? I confess that I am very guilty of that. Sometimes it's "oh, I have a minute, I'll just check." The problem is that I just stole that minute from my brain. And, on occasion, I get sucked into something and the cost is much more than a minute!

This week I've tried to stop that habit. If I decided to do a couple of hours of artwork after lunch, I tried to not start the time with checking email, FB, etc. I have not been entirely successful in resisting the urge - I'm very ashamed to admit that, it was surprisingly hard to resist. But, when I did, I got much more done than I thought I was going to - and I had more productive thoughts running through my head. When I shut myself off from the constant drip of the internet, I find my own fountain!

Now that I've said it here, I hope to do even better next week. Will you come back and ask me how much I resisted the drip? You'd be doing me a big favor. :D
