Two Old Birds, colored pencil drawing

On and off over the last few years I've thought of drawing origami. Line is so important in origami and I think there are some interesting graphic explorations to be made. So the last few days I've spent time on "Two Old Birds". They aren't old cranes, they were newly made for this project - but they weren't folded by an expert and they had to be touching to remain upright - they just seemed like an older couple living out their days in love and support of one another.

I think I have tried to draw or paint origami once before but failed (I can't find the attempt, but I did find some more ambitious origami I did a few years ago). I don't know that I'll do a series, but I'll think about it.

Flick! - Good, Cheap Database for Artists

velociraptor origami

Origami Velociraptor – what we moms do for our kids!

Recently I’ve been working on organizing my art studio. One essential part of the studio is the management on electronic files and images. I had looked at a bunch and was very disappointed. Then, I stumbled upon Flick!

As it is only $30, I figured it probably wouldn’t be that good. But, I saw the front page endorsement by the clever Tina Mammoser and decided I definitely had to try it.

I have since played around with it and love it! It is definitely able to do all that I need it to and more. Before this I have used spreadsheets, which are all alright – but with tracking customers, dealing with more images than before, etc – I just kept thinking that I needed a database. Having been a programmer, I was very tempted to build my own. But, I decided that if I could find something affordable I’d be further ahead to just buy one.

I’m thrilled with it. It’s definitely affordable. Organization is a very personal thing, so you would need to try out any system for yourself, but Flick! makes it easy with a free trial.
