The other day I started thinking about what sort of goals I want to lay out for the new year. I do realize that we haven't even hit Christmas yet, but I'd rather think about goals than shopping...
It seems that every year I center some goals around improving my skills and getting more art time (I have other goals too, but those always come up). In terms of next year, I'm batting around ideas...365 project, 100 faces, 30 minutes a day, etc. I don't have any concrete ideas yet but I decided to just start. After all, "100 faces" or "365" sound exciting and dramatic. "5 faces" or "the next 5 days" don't quite capture the imagination do they? But, if I'm not willing to commit to 5, I have no right to commit to 100. Romantic or not. So, over the final weeks of the year I am going to just "start" and try out a few different ways of tabulating my work and production and see where I get.
Having enjoyed sketching my son the other day, I decided to do another live sketch...and I was home alone.

You have a very intense but inquisitive look here. :) Yes, you set my goals early! Thanks for the gentle reminder.
All of my self-portraits have intense looks, I apparently can't help myself. I even usually have a frown but try and fake it into something less than a frown, :D. Jo, for all your supposed laziness - you got yourself a studio this year, got people to be there when you aren't, and have filled it with lovely work from yourself and other talented artists - I think you don't need goals. You just naturally achieve things! :D I achieved considerably less and I had goals!
Rose, thank you. I think one of the main differences is I have much more time to devote to art at my stage of life. You have many "jobs" on your plate and your art can only be one part. You accomplish so much with your time spread out in so many places. You are an inspiration! You help keep me focused by being such a good example.
Thanks Jo, your words mean alot!
