This post includes my entry for the virtual sketch date this month.
First, thanks to Jeanette for administering it this time and Leslie for providing the reference.
I had planned to just do my usual graphite drawing for this, but I struggled with several different value studies and couldn't really get one I loved. So, I decided that this was a sketch and just went unplanned into colored pencils. I had good fun with this. I loved using purple and orange on the fruit and green and blue on the leaves - my favorite combinations.
It was fun to do a "sketchy" CP piece that wasn't aiming for a polished look.

Nice job on this, Rose. I like it when an unplanned event comes together! Ha. Beautiful colors.
Nice job Rose. I wish I were more adventurous with colors.
Experimenting with colour is always good and using some that you think may not work, usually works.
Good drawing Rose!
I really like it Rose. The colors "pop" together. :)
Very nice Rose! I like your value studies done below too. I actually tried this image thinking I'd do the virtual sketch this time but them chickened out :) Maybe next time.
Thanks for your kind comment on my blog.
This is fabulous!
I really like the way you deal with outlines. The sketch of the apple on a previous post really shows it off. It's like you think in paint strokes while using other mediums. Very cool.
The only thing I can say about this is VIBRANT! Nice job.
Hi Rose,
Great sketch, nice bright colours!
You can't beat that purple/orange combo. Your fruit has a lovely glow!
Great job and I love your use of color.
I love what you did with it. I love the sketchy, impressionistic look of this, which is something that I have a really hard time doing myself.
Nicely done Rose! I like the "sketchy" feel of this. Did you use your broadstroke technique? I also like the color choices you made.
I like this! I love the color and the illustrative quality. This month's photo just seems to ask for color. I'm enjoying seeing the different approaches everyone took.
I love the blocky edges, Rose!
Thanks everybody for your encouragement! I love these VSDs, it is really fun to see what different people come up with...I do think that they are helping me to see my strengths and weaknesses, which was one my goals initially.
Stacy, no I didn't use broadstroke with this. I tried broadstroke on claybord with CPs and it didn't really work. More trials ahead...
This is lovely, I loved the colors as well.
Rose
I am awarding you the Brilliant Weblog Award. If you would like to accept it just pop over to my blog.
I like this a lot. It puts me in mind of the masters of cubism, like Picaso. This was extremely well done.
This makes me want to have some of this fruit. Your colors are mouth watering. A great drawing.

Great composition and color, and I love the stylized quality of the fruit and leaves!
