New Pencils...
My new pencils arrived! Aren't they lovely? Just makes me want to get busy on something new.
I've been using Prismacolor pencils up until now. They are nice, but I really love the feel of the oil-based Lyra Rembrandt Polycolors on vellum. As well, I am a bit heavy-handed and I don't want to have to worry about wax bloom.
I'm very excited about this acquisition and just had to share it! Oh, and thanks to hubby for sponsoring it!

Where did you order these, Rose? I checked dickblick, and they only have them up to a set of 36, and don't seem to offer individuals.
I've not tried these before, and have already invested heavily in prismacolors - any chance the wax based play nice with the oil based?
I got them from jerrysartarama.com. They were the only ones state-side who offered the full set. I don't think you can get them individually. That's a disappointment, but, I really like the 12 that I have, so I just decided to go for it. Katherine Tyrrell uses these quite a bit - that's why I tried them in the first place.
You can use wax and oil based together. It is nicer to put the oil over the top of the wax than the other way around, but it is still doable to do wax over oil. I've combined them in my last few pieces.
I've recently had a few issues with wax bloom and just thought that it might be wise to move away from the wax.
I hadn't used Jerry's before, it wasn't as nice and quick as DickBlick, but everything arrived on time and in good order.
Congrats on getting a new set! Side note - to get rid of wax bloom for good use workable fixative after you have finished a piece. The workable fixative allows you to add more layers to your work after you have sprayed it.
Fun Rose! Getting new art supplies in the mail always makes me feel like a little kid at Christmas!
