Yesterday I decided to just play a little bit. So, I dug out the Art Stix that I got free with some colored pencils I bought a while ago. According to the blurb, it is the same material as in their colored pencils, just without the wood and formed into a block. I thought it might be a nice change for quick gesture work - and it was. Definitely it had the freedom and expression of charcoal, but it was less messy. My fingers were blue, but it didn't transfer everywhere in the immediate vicinity (and washed off easily). I haven't really worked with pastels, so I can't make a comparison there.I sketched my boys watching a movie.
